Why Champion Sprayon® Premium paints?

Champion Sprayon® Premium Enamel offers a broad range of colors and finishes. This multi-purpose, interior/exterior enamel dries quickly, provides excellent coverage and durability, and resists chipping and peeling.

What types of finishes are available?

There are 2 flat finishes (black – 4190922, white – 4190928), 1 satin finish (oil-rubbed bronze – 4190945), 3 metallic finishes (see question 3 below), 1 semi-gloss finish (black - 4190938), and 18 gloss finishes.

What should I know about the metallic paints?

They have a brilliant finish! There are 3 - copper (4190923), chrome aluminum (4190924), and gold metallic (4190925). These are “leafing” metallic paints because, as the paint dries, the metallic particles rise to the surface leaving a brilliant finish. So, these paints are best suited for indoor use on low-touch, non-food surfaces – like picture frames or craft projects. Over time, rubbing will cause metallic powder to come off and the surface to dull. These are so lustrous that we do not recommend applying a clear topcoat. A clear coat would dull the finish.

Can any of these colors be used as OSHA safety colors?

Yes, 9 of these colors can be used – Purple (4190900), Candy Apple Red (4190905), Gloss White (4190920), Gloss Black (4190921), Canary Yellow (4190929), Danger Orange (4190930), Ocean Blue (4190942), Medium Gray (4190943), and Light Green (4190944).

What should I know about Champion Sprayon® Acrylic Clear?

Our Acrylic Clear is simply paint without a color. Most importantly, it does NOT yellow. It is the perfect protection for cleaned metal surfaces to protect them from oxidizing. It also protects wood surfaces. Before using it as a topcoat over another finish, do a test on a small inconspicuous spot to make sure there is no interaction.

Where should the paint be applied?

Champion Sprayon® Premium paint (actually, any spray paint) should be applied in a well-ventilated area. Always use a drop cloth or newspapers to protect surrounding areas from spray mist. Always keep the product away from an open spark or an open flame.

What is the best way to get a nice surface?

Surface preparation is the key. Make sure the surface is free of dirt, grease, wax, mold, mildew, wallpaper paste, or moisture. Please take special care with removing peeling paint. Old paint may contain lead. If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. For more information about removing old paint, contact the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323) or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.

What is the best way to apply spray paint?

For best results, use only when the temperature is 65F (18C) or greater. First, shake the can vigorously for at least one minute after the mixing ball rattles, to prevent any clogging. Hold the can about 12 inches from the surface. Then, press the spray button firmly, spraying in steady, even strokes. Shake the can intermittently as you spray.

Can a second coat be applied?

Yes. If re-coating is desired, it should be done after 15 minutes.

What should I use for clean up?

For cleanup on inanimate surfaces, mineral spirits, paint thinner, or toluene can be used.
